The European Left (EL) congratulates Gabriel Boric for the historical electoral success in the Presidential Elections in Chile.

“We are pleased are extremely happy with the victory Gabriel Boric. He represents the change greatly desired by the Chilean people. He has been able to fight back and defeat those openly nostalgic of the infamous dictatorship of Pinochet. We are assured he will address the demands of the citizens and bring the values of social justice and equality back to the centre of Chilean politics” declares Heinz Bierbaum, President of the European Left.

The victory of Boric offers hope for all those who want to bury once and for all neoliberal and right-wing policies. This new generation of leaders will bring forward a leftist alternative for one of the most unequal countries in the world.

The EL congratulates the Chilean people, who decided to open a new chapter in the history of their country. The EL will support this progressive response against extreme right-wing populism, intolerance and discrimination.
