Speaking ahead of a counter-protest against Europe's biggest neo-Nazi rally this Saturday in Dresden, GUE/NGL President Lothar Bisky said his group strongly supports the counter-protest and called on the people of Dresden to take part.
"This weekend we will show our opposition to historical revisionism and far-right ideology," he said, and "we are especially happy to welcome international guests to support the blockade of the annual march" where Neo-Nazis will publicly deny Germany's liability for World War II and the holocaust.
The GUE/NGL will also be represented by Dresden MEP Cornelia Ernst and Portuguese MEP João Ferreira.
"As European Leftists together with the protesters in Dresden we stand for a conscientious, sensible approach to German history and the universality of human rights," said Bisky.
Last Sunday, Dresden saw a march by 1,300 neo-Nazis. Several thousand protesters courageously stood against this, managing to bring an early end to the protest, show their opposition, and make their voices heard.
The GUE/NGL is calling for a big turnout for this weekend's counter-rally and on the police to refrain from disproportionate measures.
