Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) appoints Boyana Achovski as new GIE Secretary General as of 1 September 2016. Boyana Achovski worked for 4 years in the GIE Secretariat with the function of Vice-Executive Secretary. In this role, her responsibilities focussed on the coordination of gas lobbying strategies and initiatives as well as infrastructure campaigns. Before joining GIE, she worked for Bulgartransgaz, the Bulgarian transmission and storage operator, where she led the Analysis and International Operations Division, managing the company’s work related to the European regulatory framework and European energy policy.

Upon her appointment, Boyana Achovski said: “Today’s European energy market is confronted both with unprecedented challenges and unique market opportunities. I am especially grateful to GIE for its trust and confidence in taking this decision. I am proud to take up the role of Secretary General and I am honoured to be an active part of this new vision for our presence in Brussels by contributing to the realisation of an even more efficient, effective and innovative GIE, able to respond successfully to the needs and expectations of its Members while addressing the demands of the current European context”.

Note to Editors

Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE) is an association representing the interests of European natural gas infrastructure operators active in natural gas transmission, storage and LNG regasification. GIE is a trusted partner of European institutions, regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders. It is based in Brussels, the heart of European policymaking.

GIE currently represents 67 member companies from 24 countries. Its internal structure has three columns corresponding to the three types of infrastructure activities represented: GTE (Gas Transmission Europe), GSE (Gas Storage Europe) and GLE (Gas LNG Europe), all of which fall under the umbrella of GIE. This structure allows member companies to speak with one voice on infrastructure topics as well as to build positions on column-specific issues.
