European tyre industry in the front line to enable Heavy Duty Vehicles CO2 calculations, reporting and standards

Brussels, 20th June 2018 –  ETRMA joins today a campaign run by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, which aims to promote proper management of dangerous substances in the workplace.

The campaign, called Healthy Workplaces, started in May 2018 and it will last for two years. As a Campaign Partner, ETRMA will contribute to its overall goal by spreading the information through its members. It will also share its best practices and expertise on managing dangerous substances to contribute to continue maintaining a safety culture on workers’ protection.

ETRMA has a long history of work and commitment towards health and safety at the workplace and its Members regularly share experiences and best practices through the Associations’ Health and Safety Group. The latest example of this work was the industry’s support to the extension of further five years of the epidemiological study on the risk of cancer of workers first employed after 1975 in the rubber manufacturing industry. The research, started in 2012, resulted in the publication of three peer reviewed scientific papers in 2016 and 2017. The creation of guidance documents to assist companies in maintaining safety at the workplace is also part of the longstanding work of ETRMA in this sense.

Commenting the initiative, Mrs Cinaralp, Secretary General of ETRMA said: “Along the years, ETRMA has shown consistent commitment to protect workers’ safety and control the risk of dangerous substances. The EU OSHA campaign will certainly boost the development of expertise to control the risk that substances may pose and we wish to contribute, learn from others and help disseminate best practices across our network.”

Consistently with its efforts through this campaign, ETRMA will open a new section in its website to highlight the work done by the Association and will regularly inform the Campaign of its activities with respect to management of dangerous substances.
