Brussels (12 March) Today CEN (European Committee for Standardization) and
EUROCAE (European Organization for Civil Aviation Equipment) strengthened
their collaboration by signing a protocol to ensure and maintain technical
cooperation and mutual exchange of information in the field of Air Traffic
Management (ATM).
The protocol was signed by Mrs Elena Santiago, Director General of CENCENELEC
and Mr Gilbert Amato, Secretary General of EUROCAE.
CEN and EUROCAE have been cooperating on standardization in the field of air
traffic management (ATM) since 2006. This work is linked to the EU’s Single
European Sky initiative and carried out under mandates from the European
Commission to the European Standards Organisations (ESOs).
The objective of the protocol is to define the scope of the relationship between CEN
and EUROCAE in the context of the development of European Standards intended
to be referenced as Community Specifications under the Interoperability Regulation
of Single European Sky (552/2004/EC). Under the framework of this Regulation,
European Standards developed by one of the ESOs or specifications published by
Eurocontrol, can be referenced in the Official Journal of the European Union to
provide a means of compliance with the requirements of the Regulation. When
referenced, they are called ‘Community Specifications’ (CS).
The CEN Technical Body CEN/TC 377 ‘Project Committee Air Traffic Management
(ATM)’ is responsible for carrying out the work in this domain. To manage the work
in the field of ATM, CEN is closely coordinating with CENELEC and ETSI.
