The Assembly of European Regions (AER) is organising its 15th Summer School and 9th Youth Summer School, which by means of debates, workshops and study visits, will tackle the question of how to enhance mobility in Europe while at the same time reducing congestion, accidents and pollution.

Media are invited to a Press Conference on Monday 23 August from 10 am to 10.30 am

The Press conference will take place in Rorschach at the Pädagogische Hochschule St.Gallen, Mariaberg (Seminarstrasse 27)

Interviews on the spot are also welcomed during the whole duration of the Summer Schools

For the first time, two neighbouring regions join up for organizing the AER Summer Schools: the Swiss Cantons of St.Gallen and Thurgau. By bringing together regional decision makers, experts and young people, they will highlight new transport methods and enable exchange of best practice in the fields of urban, rural and interregional mobility. The controversial issue of traffic limitation will also be addressed.

Keynote speakers include:

• Josef Keller, Member of the St.Gallen Cantonal Government

• Jakob Stark, President of the State Council of the Thurgau Canton

• Peter Straub, AER Vice-President, President of AER Standing Committee on Institutional Affairs and President of the Landtag of Baden-Württemberg (D)

• Thomas Müller, Mayor of Rorschach City Council

• Ulrich Weidmann,  ETH (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Zurich)

• Ueli Balmer, Swiss Federal Office for Spatial Development

• Klaus-Dieter Schnell, Director of the Secretariat of the International Lake Constance Conference

• A representative of the European Commission
