Thanks to the strong pressure by the Socialists and Democrats, the European Parliament has today debated the war in Gaza and the dire situation of civilians on the brink of a humanitarian catastrophe.

Today, members of the European Parliament voted on stricter rules to protect the environment through criminal law. According to EU estimates, environmental crimes are among the most profitable international crimes, with a yearly turnover of more than €200 billion and serious consequences on human health and the environment. 

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament fought for new rules that will effectively prevent environmental damage, expand the list of environmental crimes, introduce new sanctions, and facilitate access to justice. 

On Tuesday, 27 February, members of the European Parliament will adopt a regulation on transparency and targeting of political advertising, empowering voters to make informed decisions in a safer environment during elections.

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament welcome today’s selection of the seat of the European Anti-Money Laundering Authority, known as AMLA. This is the last building block of the new system that will significantly change the rules of the game and help prevent scandals that we have witnessed excessively in the past years. The new agency will play a key role in this new system and should start its work as soon as possible, urge S&Ds.

Starting tomorrow, S&D MEPs Bernd Lange, Kathleen Van Brempt and Javier Moreno Sánchez will be in Abu Dhabi in the frame of the European Parliament’s delegation.
