S&Ds: Animal research is still vital for human health but we must accelerate its phase-out

Phasing out the use of animals in research is already underway, but progress is slow. This is the key message of today’s resolution on ´plans and actions to accelerate the transition to innovation without the use of animals in research, regulatory testing and education´.

No one wants to see animals used in labs, even for scientific purposes, but we know that in the past animal-based research has contributed significantly to advances in the treatment of many human health conditions.

S&Ds: It is time to end gender-based violence in the EU once and for all

The S&D Group welcomed the news that the Commission will propose a law to fight gender violence before the end of the year. Ahead of an important vote tomorrow, S&D MEPs are urging all political groups to support effective EU action to end gender based violence once and for all.

SGI Europe Comments on the 2021 State of the European Union

Today (15th September 2021), European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen presented her annual State of the European Union address (SOTEU) to the European Parliament plenary session.
 
Commenting this SOTEU address, Valeria Ronzitti, SGI Europe General Secretary, said:
 

Polish authorities must comply with EUCJ rulings, stop harassing judges and abandon plan to silence TVN!

Speaking ahead of the plenary debate on Poland, the S&Ds voiced today their increasing concerns over the deteriorating situation on the rule of law and media freedom in the country. If blatant violations of EU laws and values continue, sanctions must follow.

Speaking in the plenary debate on Afghanistan, the Socialists and Democrats deplored the violent takeover of the country by the Taliban, and voiced their great concerns about the humanitarian catastrophe that is unfolding.
