The Socialists and Democrats today backed a parliamentary resolution calling for stronger EU action to cope with the social and economic consequences of the war on Ukraine.

S&D MEPs successfully pushed for important measures to be included in this resolution, such as a chapter on a Social Resilience Package with concrete initiatives for Member States. These initiatives should provide targeted support to the most vulnerable parts of its population by summer 2022.

All reported atrocities committed by the Russian armed forced in Ukraine, which include cases of rape of children, must be punished, urged the S&Ds in anticipation of today’s adoption of the European Parliament’s resolution on the fight against impunity for war crimes in Ukraine.

Today European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will participate in an Offshore Wind Summit with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the Belgian Prime Ministers Alexander De Croo, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte. In a joint declaration they are set to highlight the role of home-grown North Sea offshore wind in strengthening the EU’s energy security.
