Plastics Europe raises significant concerns about Environment Committee vote on PPWR

Today the European Parliament Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety  (ENVI) voted on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).

Pesticides, especially those used in agriculture, are under scrutiny from the European Union due to their harmful impact on the environment, including the loss of pollinators and the degradation of soils, as well as their associated human health risks. Today's adoption of the new pesticides regulation by the European Parliament's environment committee, which introduces binding reduction targets for the first time, is a step in the right direction.

S&Ds raise ambition to tackle environmentally harmful packaging and packaging waste

The European Parliament's environment committee has today approved key reforms to European packaging regulations, marking a critical step in addressing the climate and environmental harm posed by increasing packaging waste in Europe.
 
According to the latest Eurostat data, each European generates an average of more than 188 kilograms of packaging annually, contributing to more than a 20% surge in packaging waste across the EU in the past decade.

EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation: Parliament is paving the way for plasticized paper – Call for a return to the goals of the Green Deal

On 24 October, the ENVI committee will vote on its compromise amendments on one of the most complex and debated files, the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). As part of the Green Deal, the new regulation is aiming at reducing packaging waste, fostering the circular economy and ensuring the functioning of the internal market by harmonised sustainability requirements for packaging.

S&Ds on EU budget 2024: We cannot do more for European citizens with less EU money

The Socialists and Democrats led a majority for the adoption of the EU budget 2024 in the plenary of the European Parliament in Strasbourg today. The S&Ds improved the proposal made by the European Commission by including funding for citizens to help them deal with the increasing costs of living.
