Following widespread false media reports on a supposed deal on the Multiannual Financial Framework 2014-2020 (MFF) negotiations, GUE/NGL MEPs set the record straight:
President Gabi Zimmer comments: "From the EP side it was publicly stated that there was no deal. Mr. Gilmore on behalf of the Irish Presidency and the European Commission seem to be losing their nerves. It's obvious the heads of states and governments of the EU are not willing to provide the necessary funding for their bubble promises of growth and jobs, aid to the most deprived and programmes to fight youth unemployment in Europe!"GueN
Jürgen Klute, member of the European Parliament MFF contact group, adds: "No agreement was reached. The negotiation team stopped all negotiations. It's a scandal how the Irish presidency and the European Commission have intentionally misled the public. I fully respect the decision of the head of the EP negotiating team to step back."
Alda Sousa, GUE/NGL Budget committee coordinator, states: "Up to now, not even any preconditions to negotiate on the MFF have been fulfilled. The EU budget has been dragging a EUR 16 Billion deficit in cohesion funds from 2012, will be out of liquidity after 31 August and it's the first time a new member state will not get any funding when it joins the EU despite legal binding."
