This afternoon Mr Antonio Tajani, European Commission Vice-President responsible for Industry and Entrepreneurship, officially handed over to the three European Standards Organisations, CEN (the European Committee for Standardization), CENELEC (the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization) and ETSI (the European Telecommunications Standards Institute),  the European Commission mandate (M/468) regarding the charging of electric cars, scooters and bicycles.  

Electric vehicles have become an increasingly important topic in the European agenda, representing an undeniable potential in achieving the 2020 target of reducing carbon emissions.

Brussels, 29 June 2010 - Green standardization is again in the spotlight with a new mandate given by the European Commission and EFTA, the European Free Trade Association, to the European Standards Organisations, CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, and ETSI, the European Telecommunications Standards Institute, regarding the charging of electric cars, scooters and bicycles.
