Our industry supplies close to 70% of prescription medicines and plays a fundamental role in lifting barriers for patient access to therapy. Generic medicines have doubled access to therapy in major chronic diseases over the last 10 years and biosimilar medicines offer a similar hope for patients requiring biological medicines.

At the initiative of the Socialists and Democrats, the European Parliament adopted today a resolution on the situation at the US-Mexican border, calling on the Trump administration to end the separation of migrant families, and to urgently reunify all children who remain separated from their parents.
 

S&Ds calls for free and fair elections to end political impasse in Venezuela

The European Parliament today voted a resolution denouncing the human rights situation in Venezuela. The Socialists and Democrats expressed their solidarity with the people of Venezuela and called for a negotiated solution to lead to free and fair elections as the only way out of the political impasse, which has caused this severe social and humanitarian crisis.

During a debate in the European Parliament on the ongoing situation in the Mediterranean Sea, where humanitarian NGOs are being criminalised for saving lives, S&D MEPs called on the new European Commission president to act quickly on her commitments to increase EU search and rescue operations, and fix the EU asylum.
