European employers accept to negotiate on European works councils

On 2 April, in a joint letter addressed to Commissioner Spidla, BUSINESSEUROPE, UEAPME and CEEP have informed the European Commission of their willingness to open negotiations with the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) on European works councils.

This decision by European employers comes in response to the Commission’s secondstage consultation of the European social partners on the revision of Council Directive
94/45/EC of 22 September 1994 on the establishment of European works councils (EWCs), published by the European Commission on 20 February 2008.
