S&Ds call on Turkey to respect the sovereign rights of Cyprus

Following the announcement of Turkey to start drilling within the exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus, S&D Group leader Udo Bullmann said:
“I express my deep concern regarding the declared intention of Turkey to start drilling within the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus. The European Council condemned already last year the Turkish illegal actions in the region, particularly in the exclusive economic zone of Cyprus.
“We, the S&D Group in the European Parliament, call on Turkey to show restraint, respect the sovereign rights of Cyprus in its exclusive economic zone and refrain from any such illegal action. As well, we are confident that, if the Turkish illegal actions continue, the European Union will respond appropriately and in full solidarity with Cyprus."
