New EU security law hits small businesses too hard

The EU Commission is planning far-reaching obligations for the prevention and reporting of cyber attacks. These will affect almost all medium-sized industrial companies. VDMA is calling for relief for small businesses.

Brussels/Frankfurt, 11 March 2021 - According to the plans of the EU Commission, practically all industrial companies will have to comply with extensive cybersecurity requirements in future - regardless of whether they are large power plant operators or niche businesses.

EU strategy on child rights must prevent the effects of the pandemic from lasting a lifetime

When the European Commission comes forward with a new 10-year strategy on children’s rights later this month, the S&D Group want to see measures that help alleviate the worst effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on children, including the exacerbation of child poverty in Europe.

The European Union is an LGBTIQ Freedom Zone

In a single-line statement, the European Parliament is declaring the European Union an ‘LGBTIQ Freedom Zone’. This sentence captures the positive and inclusive message S&D MEPs sent to all LGBTI+ communities in the plenary debate earlier this afternoon.

9 out of 10 Europeans want a social Europe, so let’s deliver, says Iratxe García

Today, during the plenary debate on the European Social Pillar, Social Democrats called for more ambition in the Commission’s Action Plan. They highlighted the window of opportunity for the Portuguese presidency of the EU to give a long-overdue impulse to Europe’s social dimension.

The approval today by the EU Parliament of the report ‘A WTO-compatible EU carbon border adjustment mechanism’ provides the Commission with important guidance in the EU's work towards our objective to make Europe climate neutral by 2050 at the latest. The Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) is an important mechanism, which, in the framework of the European Green Deal, will stimulate industry to invest in green solutions and will prevent unfair competition from outside the EU.
