Products imported from third countries into the EU will be safer thanks to better controls ensured by S&Ds

The Socialists and Democrats reached a deal last night with the European Commission, EU Member States and other political groups in the European Parliament on the new General Product Safety Regulation. The S&Ds introduced new provisions that will make imported products safer. From now on,  for every item imported from a third countries and sold to Europeans online, one person physically present in the EU has to take on the legal responsibility.

S&Ds are taking their Bring the Bills Down campaign to Vienna to join forces with SPÖ

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament will join forces with our Austrian social democratic party, SPÖ, to ”Bring the Bills Down” at an external group meeting taking place in Vienna from 5 to 8 December, 2022.  As part of this campaign, the S&D Group is calling for a winter solidarity package for families and companies, as well as permanent crisis management instruments to support the labour market, cap energy prices, and reform the energy market.

S&Ds: No EU money for Orbán’s government as long as it fails to respect the rule of law

The Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament today voted in favour of a resolution deploring the Orbán government’s failure to adopt sufficient reforms on the rule of law in Hungary. The S&D Group’s view remains that no EU money should be released to a government that cannot guarantee funds are protected from misuse.

Eider Gardiazabal Rubial, S&D MEP and co-negotiator on the issue from the European Parliament committee on budgets, said:

The European Parliament adopted today the European Declaration on Digital Rights and Principles following the green light to the declaration already given by the Council. This is a result of negotiations the European Parliament had under the leadership of S&D negotiator, Bernd Lange, with the European Commission and the Council of the EU.

European Parliament demands immediate EU exit from the Energy Charter Treaty, as S&Ds requested

As proposed by the Socialists and Democrats, the European Parliament today urged the Commission to proceed immediately with the coordinated exit of the EU from the ECT and called on member states to support such a proposal. This is the best option to prevent the ECT from putting the EU’s climate and energy security ambitions in jeopardy.
