Excluding rape from gender-based violence directive “unforgivable” say S&Ds

One in three women in the EU has experienced physical or sexual violence since the age of 15. One in two women has experienced sexual harassment. Gender-based violence, sexual violence and domestic violence are the most widespread violations of women’s rights in Europe. These serious human rights violations are crimes that disproportionately affect women. For the S&D Group, these are crimes that must not go unpunished.

AdriaClim – Climate change information, monitoring and management tools for adaptation strategies in Adriatic coastal areas

AdriaClim is the acronym of the research project funded by the Italy-Croatia Interreg Cooperation Programme dedicated to supporting the development of science-based regional and local climate change adaptation plans. AdriaClim addresses climate change threats by developing regional and local adaptation plans based on up-to-date meteorological and oceanographic information acquired through newly implemented observing and modeling systems for the Adriatic Sea.

European Parliament the driving force for protection of workers against asbestos

Only two months ago, the European Parliament was ready to negotiate for asbestos-free work, with a strong mandate for talks with EU member states. The positions were far apart. Yet today, the co-legislators unexpectedly used momentum to strike a deal under the Swedish Presidency on the revised European law on the protection of workers from asbestos. This agreement will significantly improve the safety and health of workers exposed to asbestos.

European Parliament takes significant step towards improving air quality, under S&D leadership

Today, the European Parliament's committee on the environment, public health and food safety (ENVI) greenlighted an S&D-led report on the Air Quality Directive.

Under the European Green Deal, the EU has set an objective to reduce air pollution to levels no longer considered harmful to health and natural ecosystems, aiming for a zero-pollution target for air by 2050.

Give women in prostitution a voice and a way out!

Today, the European Parliament’s committee on women’s rights and gender equality (FEMM) adopted a report drafted by S&D MEP Maria Noichl on the regulation of prostitution in the EU. The report states that prostitution, its exploitation, and human trafficking for the purpose of sexual exploitation are forms of gender-based violence, and thus a violation of women's rights and human dignity, representing a cross-border problem.
