Frankfurt/Brussels, 13 October 2025 – On the vote in the Legal Affairs Committee of the European Parliament regarding the Omnibus Package on Sustainability, VDMA Executive Director Thilo Brodtmann states:

  • “Our industry is paying close attention – and we expect reliability from policymakers! The compromise on the Omnibus Package finally brings tangible simplification and a reduction in bureaucracy for SMEs. The European Parliament must now deliver: we expect this compromise to be adopted in the vote, without further delays or political games.”
  • “We explicitly support the removal of the EU-wide regulation on civil liability, as proposed by the Commission. At the same time, it must be clear: the review clause included in the compromise must not lead to renewed uncertainty. Companies need reliability – not the constant threat that key provisions could be reopened at any time.”
  • “Eliminating the climate transition plans under the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) would also have been an important step. This would have avoided double regulation with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and thus unnecessary bureaucracy.”

VDMA Managing Director Thilo Brodtmann

VDMA represents 3600 German and European mechanical and plant engineering companies. The industry stands for innovation, export orientation and small and medium-sized enterprises. The companies employ a total of around 3 million people in the EU-27, more than 1.2 million of them in Germany alone. This makes mechanical and plant engineering the largest employer among the capital goods industries, both in the EU-27 and in Germany. It accounts for an estimated turnover of around 870 billion euros in the European Union. Around 80 per cent of the machinery sold in the EU comes from a manufacturing facility in the internal market.
