Trump and the Nuclear Deal: Like a bull in a china shop

One day after the withdrawing from UNESCO, US President Donald Trump decides not to certify the nuclear deal with Iran, instead he calls for new sanctions and threatens the termination of the deal. Cornelia Ernst (DIE LINKE.), Deputy Chairwoman of the Delegation for EU-Iran Relations, comments:

"The shameless approach towards Riyadh was not enough, the man in the White House keeps playing cheerfully with peace in the Middle East. The Congress now has the last word, but Trump is pushing his failed foreign policy on and on, not least to divert attention from his domestic political disaster."

"Iran has so far fulfilled all obligations and does not provide any reason to terminate the agreement. What we need after today's statements from the US President, is a clear commitment to the agreement by all the signatory states, no Washington piecemeal tactics at the expense of peace and years of diplomatic efforts and successes. Peace must be actively pursued and instead of demanding further sanctions, the US should first fulfill its own commitments."
