ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) is a proud partner of the 25th European Corporate Governance Conference

The 25th European Corporate Governance Conference will take place virtually on the 18 of June 2020, under the auspices of Croatia's Presidency of the Council of the European Union. Organised by the Independent Directors Association, the Croatian Financial Services Supervisory Agency (HANFA) and EY, in collaboration with ACCA, alongside AccountancyEurope, EcoDa, EuropeanIssuers and BusinessEurope.

The main theme of the conference is ‘Sustainability, Boards and Investment: What’s next for Corporate Governance?’. In light of the pandemic, the discussion will also reflect the impact of COVID-19 on corporate governance and address topical issues such as  the role of corporate governance in shaping European recovery, reconciling financial, social and environmental performance for a sustainable future, rethinking corporate governance in the age of digital transformation and COVID-19, as well as capital markets and responsible investment that reflects the new challenges of the sustainability transition.

Jimmy Greer, head of sustainability at ACCA  is among the impressive line-up of speakers, which includes  Dražen Bošnjaković, Minister of Justice of Croatia, and  Didier Reynders, European Commissioner for Justice (see programme for more details).

Ahead of the event Jimmy Greer says: ‘I’m delighted to represent ACCA at this timely and very relevant event taking place at such an important moment. The discussions will focus on the profound challenges linked to megatrends and the COVID-19 crisis that need to be addressed together and with urgency if we are to be successful in building a sustainable recovery.

‘The new European Commission proposal for a post-pandemic recovery plan , “Europe's moment: Repair and Prepare for the Next Generation”  includes a new initiative in 2021 on sustainable corporate governance, to ensure environmental and social interests are fully embedded into business strategies. This is an essential and long overdue starting point to help us all build back better.’
