Brussels, 25 March 2010 - “The time is ripe to change our energy future” is this year’s motto of the EU Sustainable Energy Week that takes place from 22 to 26 March 2010 and to which CEN, the European Committee for Standardization, and CENELEC, the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization, are contributing by hosting a couple of conferences.

Developing a sustainable future for all of Europe’s citizens is a crucial milestone of the European Union’s 2020 target, and energy has a central role to play in helping to achieve this objective. CEN and CENELEC do their share in contributing to shape the future of energy through the development of green energy related standards, and in accepting European Commission mandates to make standards respond to legislation requirements on sustainability.

CEN and CENELEC have developed an expertise in the field of energy management through the work of their joint CEN/CENELEC Sector Forum Energy Management, a platform that was created in 2006 aiming at facilitating the exchange of information between the different stakeholders, as well as coordinating and identifying the standardization needs in the energy sector.
