Huawei sponsors the 10th European Business Summit and shares its views on leveraging technology to boost innovation
[Brussels, 26 April 2012] – Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) provider, will take part for the second year running in the European Business Summit in Brussels on 26 April. Chairman of Huawei France, Mr François Quentin will join Commissioner Máire Geoghegan-Quinn and other panelists in the ‘Leveraging technology to innovate’ discussion. Mr Quentin will draw inspiration from Huawei’s own history, emerging in just decades from a small operation in China to a global player in 140 countries with 140,000 employees worldwide.
Huawei recognises ICT’s potential to improve education and bridge the so-called e-skills gap. Mr Quentin will elaborate on how Huawei’s solutions (i.e. its eClass cloud platform) and technology in general will enable better collaboration and boost knowledge management.
Mr Kevin Tao, President of Western Europe Region, Huawei: “Our long-term investment in R&D, together with partners, universities and research centres, has clearly paid off. Huawei’s consistent growth is fuelled by a commitment to boosting the skills of our teams. Today, we employ around 7000 people in sites across Europe, including eight R&D centres, nine training centres and one competence centre. And we are planning to double our workforce in Europe within three years.”
According to the Commission report ‘E-skills in the 21st century’, 198 million Europeans still lack basic ICT user skills and, by 2015, the EU could face a shortage of 384,000 ICT practitioners.
Mr Leo Sun, President of Huawei Brussels Office: “Our technologies, R&D policy and daily operations are fully aligned with the goals of the European Digital Agenda. Huawei makes significant investment in improving competences in e-skills, especially among young people. This is central to our innovation strategy. Huawei develops partnerships with universities and institutes to enhance students’ e-skills.
At EBS, Huawei will also showcase examples of its innovation pipeline, including enterprise solutions and three new-generation smartphones: the ‘Ascend D quad’ (the fastest on the market), ‘Ascend P1S’ (the slimmest on the market), and the ‘Honor’ and ‘Media pad’.
