Following the recent escalation of the tensions between India and Pakistan, vice-president of the S&D Group, Victor Boştinaru, says:
“The European Union and the international community cannot remain silent in the face of dangerous military escalation between two nuclear powers such as India and Pakistan. We are confident the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Federica Mogherini, will use her diplomatic influence to diminish the tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi and open the way for dialogue and understanding. The S&D Group calls on both sides to refrain from any action that could lead the entire region on the brink of a new and bloody war. We firmly condemn the initial terrorist attack on February 14 that caused the death of over 40 Indian soldiers. We urge both Indian and Pakistani authorities to stop military strikes across the Line of Control (LoC) that already marked the worst escalation between the neighbours in decades.”
