PES confirms names put forward for common candidate

The Party of European Socialists has today announced the candidates vying to lead the Party into the 2019 European elections. 
 
The deadline to submit nominations was on 18/10/2018 at 23.59. To qualify, a candidate needed to secure a nomination from a PES full member party or organisation, and the support of 25% of PES full member parties or organisations.
 
Two candidates submitted qualifying nominations:
Maros Sefcovic, Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union
Frans Timmermans, First Vice-President of the European Commission for Better Regulation, Interinstitutional Relations, the Rule of Law and the Charter of Fundamental Rights
The nominations of both candidates will now be certified by the PES Working Group on the Common Candidate, which is set to meet on 26 October 2018.
