ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants)  announces the pass rates of its latest exam sitting for March 2020.

The results saw 68,247 students around the world entering 79,214 exams. A total of 3,292 students completed their final exams to become ACCA affiliates.

Alan Hatfield, ACCA executive director - strategy and development said: ‘When we planned the schedule of 2020 exam sittings last year, little did we know that Covid-19 would emerge as one of the biggest disruptive forces since SARs and the global financial crash of 2008.

‘Since the outbreak, our priority has been the health and safety of our students, staff and our stakeholders. As a result of the pandemic spreading, we took the important decision in February to cancel March exam sittings in several countries where governments introduced lock downs – including Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Kuwait, Macau SAR, Mongolia and South Korea.

‘To say this latest exam period was a challenge for our students is an understatement. We are incredibly grateful to our global student community, our learning provider and employer partners for their understanding and patience during this very unusual time, and for their help to enable exams to take place where it was safe and appropriate to do so.

Commending the resilience of its students, Alan Hatfield continued: ‘We know this is a particularly difficult time for many of our students who are unsure of their next steps. We’ve heard from those who want to keep to their study plans, and from others who are not able to do so now and want to defer studying until things are more settled. We have put online resources in place and are looking at digital solutions for them.’

As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, ACCA has announced June exam sitting cancellations – including in the UK, Western Europe and Americas. Where exams are cancelled, students will be issued with an exam fee credit to their MyACCA account for the exams already entered so they can be rebooked for a future exam session. ACCA students still have the flexibility to postpone any sitting, and ACCA has also frozen exam entry prices for the September 2020 session as it closely monitors the situation globally as it develops.

ACCA has an online information and advice hub for students and members, with a section on wellbeing to help people manage the impact of the global pandemic.

Alan Hatfield concludes: ‘Covid-19 continues to present the greatest challenge of our time. Our thoughts go out to our global community and everyone who has been personally affected by it.’
