PASCAL BAROLLIER, NEW GAVI ALLIANCE DIRECTOR OF MEDIA & COMMUNICATIONS

Geneva, 4 June 2013 – The GAVI Alliance today announced the appointment of Pascal Barollier, 48, a French national, as the new Director of Media & Communications. He will be based at GAVI’s headquarters in Geneva and will report directly to the GAVI Alliance CEO, Dr Seth Berkley.

“I am delighted that Pascal Barollier is joining GAVI,” said Dr Berkley. “He brings a strong communications background together with knowledge of vaccines and a global view of the public health challenges we face. He will be a valuable member of the executive team, helping to further strengthen GAVI’s role in increasing access to immunisation in developing countries.”

Since 2006, Pascal Barollier has led the global external communications and media relations team at Sanofi Pasteur, a global vaccine manufacturer that is a member of the GAVI Alliance. “I am proud to be joining GAVI, whose vision and mission fully reflect my commitment to global public health,” he said. “Vaccines save lives and contribute significantly to the development of populations, communities and countries.”

Pascal Barollier started his career as a journalist for Agence France Presse (AFP). He worked as a Correspondent in AFP’s Washington bureau and in the former Yugoslavia, prior to returning to Washington as a Science & Health Correspondent.

He co-founded a magazine and a web agency specialised in digital communications in 1998, and is also the author of three novels, co-author of an essay about life in Sarajevo and co-scriptwriter of the movie “Aime ton père”, with Gérard and Guillaume Depardieu.

Pascal Barollier is a graduate of the Strasbourg Institute of Political Studies (IEP), and is an alumnus of the Indiana University’s Master of journalism program (Bloomington, USA).
