The European Parliament’s economic and monetary affairs committee appointed today Philip Lane as a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) and José Manuel Campa as Chair of the European Banking Authority (EBA).
Pervenche Berès, S&D Group spokesperson on economic and monetary affairs:
“It is legitimate to support candidates who show merit, skills, knowledge and experience. However, we deplore that once again gender balance, which is at the core of what we stand for, has not been respected. Women continue to be underrepresented in executive positions in the field of banking and financial services. We therefore believe that all EU and national institutions and bodies should implement concrete measures to ensure gender equality.”
