New salary and career survey shows employers welcome the skills of ACCA accountants
Research in the latest salary survey from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) shows career aspirations can be met in uncertain economic times
ACCA students and affiliates around the world frequently earn salaries that exceed the national average across other professions, states the latest Students and affiliates salary and career survey 2012 from ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants).
The report’s findings capture information on the salaries, bonuses and benefits of ACCA students and affiliates, including students studying for the foundation level qualifications around the world. The report also records their typical working hours, their career plans and priorities.
The survey received 22,379 responses from ACCA students and affiliates who participated in an online survey conducted in the late second quarter of 2012.
Some key highlights of the report include:
- In the 12 months preceding this survey, 63 per cent of ACCA students and affiliates received a pay rise, with two-thirds (65 per cent) of these gaining an increase of at least six per cent.
- Of ACCA students and affiliates receiving a bonus, 53 per cent were awarded a larger bonus than in the previous year, with little variation across sectors.
- ACCA students are ambitious and understand the opportunities an ACCA qualification gives them are extensive: 84 per cent aim to gain a more senior position in their current area, 75 per cent want to lead a finance team and 64 per cent plan to start their own business at some point in their career.
- Many employers provide benefits such as study leave and payment of various student fees. This shows they support the students while they progress through their studies.
Neil Stevenson, executive director-brand at ACCA, said: “In general, this research shows that accountancy generates financial rewards and it offers diverse career opportunities over many sectors. ACCA’s core purpose is to offer opportunities to people of talent, regardless of their background. As this survey shows, ACCA students around the world view the ACCA Qualification as providing a route to well-paid, flexible careers in roles that employers value. And through their skills, knowledge and professional ethics, ACCA members continue to bring public value around the world – which is critical in supporting the global economy and responsible business worldwide.”
