EuropaBio welcomes the Budapest Declaration’s call for a renewed focus on competitiveness, economic prosperity and sovereignty and EU leader recognition of biotechnology as an essential to the EU’s future.

Following the Conclusions of last May, EU leaders reaffirmed that biotechnology is one of the strategic technologies to EU competitiveness. Leaders also convened on the urgency to strengthen EU economic prosperity and achieve its ambition to become the first global climate-neutral continent.

EuropaBio Director General, Dr. Claire Skentelbery had this to say, “A New European Competitiveness Deal is essential to ensure the EU builds on its position as a global biotech leader. Biotech and biomanufacturing are essential across industrial ecosystems, to create green and globally competitive industries and ensure healthier citizens through EU innovation and capacity. EuropaBio looks towards the EU Biotech Act as a first step in making the EU simpler and faster for biotech innovators.”

Biotechnology applications across strategic sectors such as health, agri-food, energy, manufacturing, and consumer products is an essential enabler for Europe’s competitiveness, green transition, resilience, and prosperity.  EuropaBio looks forward to engaging with policymakers and stakeholders on the delivery of a New European Competitiveness Deal supportive of biotechnology.
