Photonics experts and strategic stakeholders debate Horizon Europe Photonics Partnership priori- ties / Critical value chains in focus
The Photonics Partnership invites experts from industry, research organisations and politics to discuss and shape the future of photonics in Europe at the Radisson Collection Hotel in Brussels on 26 and 27 April. This year´s meeting is focused on critical value chains for Europe´s strategic autonomy.
The event will start by Lutz Aschke (Photonics21 President and Managing Director of the Mahr Group) handing over the new Photonics21 Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda to the European Com- mission. The strategic plan for the second half of the Horizon Europe work programme will be ex- plained in a keynote speech given by a representative of the European Commission. Gabriel Crean, CEO of Lux Consulting, will talk about photonics being critical for Europe´s autonomy in key strategic value chains.
Two speakers will stress the importance of photonics in the European Chips Act: A White Paper on integrated photonics with KDT-/Chips JU will be presented by Mike Wale, Professor at Eindhoven Uni- versity of Technology and University College London. Ewit Roos, CEO of PhotonDelta, will point out how the European Chips Act influences photonic integrated circuit manufacturing capability in Europe. The event will further present the winner of the Photonics21 Innovation Award 2023 with a prize money of €5,000 honouring his or her excellent idea for a photonics product that can transform into a real business or product. The first day will end with a nice networking dinner.
The second day of the Photonics Partnership Annual Meeting will focus on photonics call topics and key EU strategic initiatives. The Photonics Partnership priority setting process for the Horizon Europe work program 2025-2027 will take part across seven thematic workshops, with experts debating the research and innovation priorities and democratically deciding on the future research and innovation priorities. The two days-meeting will end by drawing conclusions and defining the next steps.
