(Brussels, 10 January 2018) On the occasion of the first meeting of the European Commission’s high level multi-stakeholder Platform on the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), FoodDrinkEurope launched today a dedicated website on Europe’s food and drink industry’s commitment to deliver on all SDGs relevant to the sector.
“FoodDrinkEurope and its members are committed to promoting sustainable practices and implementing the targets set within the SDGs” said Mella Frewen, Director General of FoodDrinkEurope. “We aim to build on the essential links between food, people and the planet.”
Implementing the key goals and targets can however not be done independently and will require key partnerships along the food chain and beyond. Cooperation with key institutions and agencies at European and global level is thus essential to foster positive results. The establishment of the Commission’s high-level multi-stakeholder platform on the implementation of the SDGs at European level, where FoodDrinkEurope is a member, is a positive example.
This new website aims at communicating and sharing the initiatives of Europe’s food and drink industry towards the achievement of the SDGs. “We can make a difference with our actions and we intend to show it” added Frewen.
Note to the editors:
FoodDrinkEurope is the organisation of Europe’s food and drink industry, the largest manufacturing sector and leading employer in the EU and a key contributor to its economy (289 000 companies, 99% SMEs, 4.2 million employees).
