EPP Group MEPs Iñigo Méndez de Vigo and Luís de Grandes will host an event on Tuesday to support the Ending Hunger campaign launched by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) with the aim of calling on world governments to give real priority to policies to fight against hunger.

With nearly 1 billion people in the world suffering from hunger, Méndez de Vigo, in his capacity as Chairman of the European Parliament's Intergroup on Extreme Poverty and Human Rights, and Luís de Grandes MEP will ask their colleagues and people working in the European Institutions to sign a public petition addressed to world political leaders.

"We who support this petition find it unacceptable that close to one billion people are chronically hungry. Through the United Nations, we call upon governments to make the elimination of hunger their top priority until that goal is reached", says the so-called '1billionhungry' petition that will be available for signature on a big panel at an exhibition with pictures and videos related to the campaign.

The '1billionhungry' petition has already been signed by more than 3 million people around the world.
