The European Federation of Energy Traders (EFET)1 has now completed the formation of its new Board, which started with the elections held in November 2011.

In compliance to the EFET Bye-Laws, the newly elected members had the possibility to appoint additional Board members to enrich the range of knowledge and expertise needed to advise and provide support to the various activities that EFET is engaged in.

On March 8th, Paul Dawson (RWE Supply and Trading) was appointed as new EFET Chairman, taking the baton from Paul van Son.

“It’s a privilege to become the Chair of such a dynamic organisation” Paul Dawson said. “EFET has been central to the liberalisation of the European power and gas sectors over the last 13 years and I look forward to continuing to work with the EFET Board, member companies, the Principal Committees reporting to the Board and the EFET Secretariat on the ongoing challenges we face in energy markets in the years to come”.

EFET was founded in 1999 and was one of the pioneers in promoting market opening and in fostering the development of liberalised electricity and gas markets in Europe. The two founders were the retiring Chairman Paul van Son and the current Secretary General Jan van Aken, who steered EFET through many different – and sometimes difficult - phases of its evolution from its inception to the, vibrant organisation it is today.

“It was my great pleasure and honour to work with so many wonderful people and bring EFET to where it stands today, a well-recognised and trustful European energy association.

I’m now happy to hand the Chairmanship to Paul Dawson; I am confident that under this leadership and with its highly motivated staff and members, EFET will master the upcoming challenges of open energy markets in a fair and balanced way”.

EFET would not be the organisation it is today without the vision and commitment of Paul van Son.

We are all in Paul’s debt and I’m very pleased that he has agreed to continue to make himself available to EFET, so that we will continue to benefit from his experience and wise counsel in the coming years" commented the new EFET Chairman Paul Dawson.
