Europe needs a stronger focus on progressive policies that deliver growth and jobs for everyone and an ambitious European Green Deal that is both environmentally responsible and socially just, under the new EU Commission, EU ministers from the PES political family said today after a meeting in Brussels.
The ministers expressed their satisfaction that Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans will run the European Green Deal, and demanded proper financing for more progressive policies in the coming years.
The Chair of the PES Network of the General Affairs Council, German Minister of State for Europe, Michael Roth said:
“The European Green Deal that is being proposed by Frans Timmermans is a great step in the right direction. We have to put climate and the environment at the top of agenda. And we have to put the social dimension of this transformation right next to it, for a just transition to take place. These two dimensions must be at the top of the European agenda, and they must also be given the necessary resources. We must make sure that the next budget of the EU reflects this, and that we can mobilise the necessary resources for those policies to be meaningful and applicable.”
The ministers also discussed the rule of law situation in Hungary.
