EURACTIV launches new 'Digital & Media' hub

EURACTIV has launched its new ‘Digital & Media hub’ this week to better report on all key developments, positive and negative, in the field of media, a sector that often does not receive quite the attention it deserves.

There are two main changes taking place in the media landscape: increasing challenges to democracy and rule of law, but also increased opportunity as media become predominantly digital. Our new Digital & Media hub enables us to invest in more reporting and analysis of these two macro-trends which are already transforming the European public sphere,” says Zoran Radosavljevic, EURACTIV’S Editor-in-Chief.

Earlier this week, Vice President of the European Commission for Values & Transparency Věra Jourová spoke with Samuel Stolton, Editor of EURACTIV’s Digital Hub, about the new Digital & Media hub and about the state of play of media freedom in Europe more generally, noting that this new focus in EURACTIV is timely and could play a constructive role in strengthening Europe’s democracy, which largely relies on strong, independent media.

Background:

The extension of EURACTIV’s Digital hub to Media is supported by Europe’s MediaLab, and by the exchange programme stars4media that it initiated. This project, supported by 60 stakeholders is co-funded by the EU at the European Parliament’s request. The consortium is led by VUB university, and also includes WAN-IFRA (the largest publishers’ association), and the European Federation of Journalists (regrouping trade unions).

EU policy around digital and media innovation are closely related, as explained in this Op-Ed on leadership, published on EURACTIV.
