EurActiv special coverage around Parliament committee vote
EurActiv, the independent media portal specialised in EU policies, is running special coverage around a key vote in Parliament on the Commission's controversial proposals to complete the liberalisation of the EU gas and electricity markets.

MEPs on the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) are gearing up for a key vote on Tuesday 6 May that will pave the way for the full Parliament to adopt its position in June. The vote will cover the Commission's controversial proposals on 'ownership unbundling' that would force big energy firms to sell off their energy transmission assets to force more competition on the market.

The special coverage will run throughout the week beginning on Monday 15 May and will include the following:

- An opening article on the Commission’s answer to proposals by France and Germany to delay full ‘ownership unbundling’ of vertically integrated energy firms (see already published article);
- An interview with leading MEP Alejo Vidal Quadras on the likelihood of a compromise between Parliament and Council on the issue;
- Coverage of the 6 May vote in the Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE); and,
- Rising energy prices and the consumers’ point of view.

The special coverage comes after Fondation EurActiv held a stakeholder workshop on 16 April to sound out views on these issues.
