05-14-2020. The Encryption Europe Small and Medium Business Alliance is pleased to join the Global Encryption Coalition, adding a voice of European encryption small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to the initiative. The coalition, which was launched today through five events across four continents, brings together over thirty organisations from across the Internet ecosystem. The ambition of the Global Encryption Coalition is to create a space for exchanging ideas between stakeholders to enable stronger advocacy to promote and defend the use of strong encryption.

This initiative was started by predominant and historic players in the information technology sector, Global Partners Digital (GPD), the Internet Society (ISOC), and Center for Democracy and Technology (CDT). Following discussions with ISOC, Encryption Europe was inspired to join the Global Encryption Coalition in order to make the voice of European encryption SMEs heard worldwide.

Encryption Europe coordinator, Jean-Christophe Le Toquin, presents the opportunities related to this membership: "This initiative brings together all the players promoting strong encryption at a global level, and it fills a real gap. As industrialists, we are addressing everyone, from citizens to authorities, including businesses and NGOs, and it is this transversal vision that we want to bring to the Coalition."

“We are excited to welcome Encryption Europe to join the Global Encryption Coalition,” said Ryan Polk, Senior Policy Advisor at the Internet Society. “With a membership committed to saying no to encryption backdoors, key escrow and weak encryption, Encryption Europe will be a strong partner in the Coalition’s mission to protect and promote the use of strong encryption on a global scale.”

The inclusion of Encryption Europe in this coalition is a strong sign of the importance of European industry players in the global encryption debate. Encryption Europe's central mission is to work and dialogue with as many players as possible for the adoption of strong encryption for the benefit of everyone's security.
