Glasgow, 19 October 2016 - Creating jobs and economic growth, tackling climate change and paving the way towards a circular, bioeconomy for Europe will all be on the agenda at this year’s EFIB.  Over 600 leading industry and policy experts meet this week at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow to discuss the opportunities and challenges for this leading high-tech sector to help drive the development of world-leading renewable and clean tech solutions.  EFIB, organised by EuropaBio, the European Association of Bioindustries is now, in its 9th year and continues to attract more consumer brands, leading the quest for smarter, more sustainable products and processes.

‘EFIB is a home-grown EU success story’ Commented Industrial Biotech chair and Managing Board Member of Royal DSM, Stephan Tanda. ‘This year we will hear from PSA group, Unilever, Ecover, Vegware, Procter and Gamble, IKEA, Wrap, Paul Gilding, Professor Dame Anne Glover, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and the European Commission, amongst others’.  ‘EFIB proves that Bio-based products, enabled by industrial biotech, are no longer a niche sustainability market of the future but are now the high performance, renewable alternatives of today’.

EFIB will also draw in the brightest and best innovators from Scotland and from around the world to share their latest breakthroughs and commercial successes.  ‘We’ve had tremendous support from our local partners, IBioIC, in Scotland this year and are delighted to be in this world-leading region for renewables, powered by industrial biotech, added Joanna Dupont-Inglis, Director of Industrial Biotech for EuropaBio. ‘Industrial biotech is on track to create up to 1.5 million jobs across the EU by 2030 contributing up to almost 100 billion euros. In the process, the technology will help us ensure that global commitments to climate change mitigation, ratified by the EU earlier this month, are transformed from promise to reality’.
