UK in Europe

Brussels, 28th June 2016 -- The European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) Group met this morning to discuss the outcome of the U.K. referendum. The group was unanimous in its view that the views of the British people and the EU's treaties must both be respected. The ECR Group was resolute in its view that the need for significant EU reform along the lines of the ECR's Prague Declaration is now needed more than ever.

ECR Leader Syed Kamall said:

"The ECR is united in stating that the EU now needs to respect its own Treaties which clearly state that it is for the British government to decide when it wishes to trigger Article 50.

"The group now has a renewed mission to take a stand against the centralising policies that have caused so much dissatisfaction across the Continent. Our call for major EU reform along euro realist principles is never more necessary and we will not waver in our commitment to reform the EU for the better."
