The social partners of the chemical industry in Europe welcome the European Parliament’s vote in favour of ratifying the Paris Agreement.

The vote was preceded both by last Friday’s Council meeting, at which EU environment ministers agreed on sealing a fast-track deal, and the decisive steps of the USA and China to ratify the Paris Agreement in the context of the G20 summit. India deposited its instrument of ratification of the Paris Agreement with the United Nations on Sunday.

We believe that with this step the EU proves its pioneering role in climate preservation on the global scene.

Based on this last minute decision, the EU will be able to ratify the Paris Agreement on climate change without each member state first ratifying it at a national level.

EU chemical industry social partners look forward to the upcoming COP22 in Marrakech and the now very likely entry into force of the global agreement.
