Consumers, Environment and Innovation: priorities for the global household appliance industry

IRHMA - THE NEW GLOBAL HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCE ASSOCIATION ROUNDTABLE WILL IDENTIFY COMMON INDUSTRY POLICY VIEWS SUCH AS
- advocating the use of clear, informative product labelling to assist consumers in making environmentally-minded choices;
- contributing to the industry effort to drive product sustainability;
- supporting product safety standards that favour safe, convenient, high performance products;
- strengthening product market surveillance to foster current consumer confidence;
- supporting harmonized policies and standards for smart appliances to increase consumer benefit and improve efficiency of the grid.
Mr. Paolo Falcioni, Director General of CECED says: “IRHMA will deliver a global vision on key topics relating to the future policy challenges.”
Adds Mr. Joseph McGuire, AHAM President, “Given the benefit of learning from the approach to products policy from other parts of the world, five household appliance sector associations, have today taken the important step of creating a global platform - IRHMA – in which important issues can be discussed and global experiences and knowledge shared”.
Mr. Pablo Moreno, ANFAD Chairman, continues: “IRHMA will give us the opportunity to better understand approaches that originate from outside our geographical area.”
Mrs. Jiang Feng, CHEAA President, comments: “I welcome the creation of IRHMA to assist industry in addressing future global challenges”
Mr. Satoshi Tanaka, JEMA Director & General Manager Home Electric Appliances Department, emphasizes: “JEMA will contribute to IRHMA in view of improving quality, technical capacity and international competitiveness of home electrical appliances for the purpose of ensuring sustainable development of the global household industry”.

IRHMA stands for the International Roundtable of Household Appliance Manufacturer Associations. IRHMA has come into being on 18th February with the official signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, in Brussels, between five separate household appliance manufacturer Associations from across the globe.
IRHMA’s main objective is to provide a global forum for the industry that assists knowledge-sharing. The Roundtable does not discuss elements about individual companies or regions that may have a competitive element. All actions and communications of IRHMA will be consistent with competition laws from across the globe.
