The CCC lays out top priorities and lessons learnt for consumer policy

Brussels, BE – Today, the Consumer Choice Center has released a comprehensive Consumer Innovation Manifesto, which outlines the regulatory and legal changes we believe are essential for the post-Coronavirus world. Fred Roeder, Managing Director of the Consumer Choice Center says:

“Be it travel policy, food delivery, medical innovation, or trade: COVID-19 has exposed the blatant deficiencies in existing consumer policies. For years governments have favoured restrictive policies that have hampered consumer choice,” said Roeder.

“One issue that many EU countries need to improve on, is fast and easy access to medicines. In a time when we want to practice social distancing, patients in certain countries do not have access to prescription medicine, or even non-prescription drugs online. As a result, we are forcing elderly people to see a doctor in person or go to a brick and mortar pharmacy. This is antiquated and does not stand up to the challenges of our time.

"Our manifesto lays out clear policy changes that we believe are essential going forward. These are policy aims we have been articulating for a number of years, and considering the massive regulatory overhaul governments are currently executing, we believe we’ve been vindicated.

“Now, we must constructively work toward a brighter future for all consumers,” concludes Roeder.
