Congratulations, Tirana! Winner of the European Youth Capital for 2022

The city of Tirana, Albania has been announced as the next winner of the European Youth Capital (EYC) title.  
 
The Award Ceremony in Amiens was attended by French President, Emmanuel Macron, who encouraged all young people in Europe to take action to shape the future and protect the values of freedom and democracy. He also expressed pride at his hometown, the city of Amiens, that will take the title of European Youth Capital next year in 2020.
 
Special guests in attendance also included Frédérique Vidal, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Gabriel Attal, the Secretary of State for Youth, Laurent Somon, the President of Département de la Somme and the Mayor of Amiens, Brigitte Fouré.
 
As EYC 2022, Tirana will have an ambitious programme that will aim to address the needs of all its young people, championing non-formal education and striving to connect the city and its youth with European values.
 
Carina Autengruber, President of the European Youth Forum said: "Congratulations Tirana! You have shown great commitment to build a long-lasting legacy that will put young people at the heart of your city."
 
The ceremony also took place just ahead of the European Youth Forum’s Council of Members in Amiens, which brings together more than 150 young delegates representing youth organisations from all over Europe.
 
The winning city, Tirana, was chosen from a shortlist of five finalist cities. These other impressive entries came from (in alphabetical order):

Kazan (Russia)
 
Poznań (Poland)
 
Varaždin (Croatia)
 
The shortlisted cities for EYC 2022 were selected by an independent Jury that comprises of representatives of the following institutions and organisations:
