European Conference for Water experts, 14th October 2010

EUREAU holds  under the Belgian Presidency and with the help of Belgaqua, a European Conference on “Climate Change and Water: a common challenge” on 14 October 2010 in Brussels. More than 200 participants have confirmed their presence; experts in the water sector as well as Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission and the Trio Presidency will take part on this conference.

Climate Change is already affecting the water sector, from its source material to its customer base and recycling routes.  Recent events across Europe have highlighted the threat to critical infrastructure and key services such as water and wastewater. EUREAU strongly believes that to deal with climate change adaptation is to deal with water and EUREAU members have invested heavily to maintain and develop the water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure the availability of safe water supplies and wastewater services.

“We consider that only long term projects will have a positive impact on the environment and future generations. Common projects and global change are the most effective,” highlights Klara Szatkiewicz, President of EUREAU. “EUREAU members are already involved in activities that will help mitigate climate change including energy efficiency projects, decrease direct emissions of greenhouse gases,  increase the use of renewable energy generation through wind, hydro and bio gas fueled combined heat and power engines, sludge treatment, recycling and re-use and we consider energy efficiency in all our activities.”

Discussion over Climate Change and Adaptation and Climate Change and Mitigation will take place during this whole day conference in Brussels. High level speakers will present their views.

This conference counts among its Gold sponsors with: Veolia Water, Suez and Lyonnaise des Eaux, Deutche Vereinigung des Gas- und Wasserfaches (DVGW) and Bundesverband der Energie- und Wasserwirtschaft e.V. (BDEW) and and Italian partnership composed by: Federutility, HERA SpA  (Bologna), SMAT SpA (Torino), AQP SpA (Bari), AMIACQUE srl (Milano).
