The European Parliament has rejected a GUE/NGL proposal for a debate with the Commission on GMOs.

Following last week's approval by the Commission of GM potato Amflora, the GUE/NGL group requested a roll call vote today on the addition of the issue to the agenda of the European Parliament Plenary Session in Strasbourg. Despite public opinion and the concerns raised about the manner in which Barroso pushed the controversial approval through by written procedure, a majority of MEPs rejected the proposal to openly debate the issue.

Vote result: +82, -182, A 15
