S&D Group president Udo Bullmann today condemned the attack against political opponents of Fidesz in Hungary.

Udo Bullmann stated: “I am shocked by the action taken by a group of far-right "activists" loyal to Viktor Orban and Fidesz using a human puppet with the face of our colleague Istvan Ujhelyi MEP, which they hung by the feet from a tree near where the communist party used to have its headquarters.

“This disgusting act is a disgrace and a shame. It sheds light on Fidesz’s aggressive policy towards politicians from the opposition in Hungary. This is their despicable way of responding to the European Parliament’s resolution which condemns the undemocratic drift of Orban’s government.

“We stand firm with our Hungarian friends and the Hungarian people and call on Fidesz to clearly condemn such violence and distance themselves from such acts.”
