BSEF, The International Bromine Council, meets with key Asian stakeholders in Seoul

For the third consecutive year, BSEF, The International Bromine Council, organised its Asia Forum.
 
After the successful editions in China and Japan, the 2019 edition entitled “Circular Economy, Chemicals Policy and the Electrical & Electronics Sector” brought together multiple Asian stakeholders and experts from academia, industry and government organizations.
 
K. Kannah, BSEF chairman, welcomed the participants saying that “We are a small association, but we have a very powerful message – Bromine can be safely used in all its applications”.
 
 
Dr. Kevin Bradley, BSEF Secretary-General, presented BSEF and its global activities and mentioned there is a “clear trend and focus on sustainability and BSEF and its members are committed to developing innovative solutions that meet societal needs”. Dr. Kevin Bradley said that “We are happy to be in Korea and we hope to continue developing our relations with South Korean Chemical Industry”.
 
Premchand and N. Mundra, Avalon Consulting presented a clear assessment of bromine uses and stakeholder views about the Bromine Industry in South Korea. “Korea is a very innovative industry and contributes to approximately 11% of the Asia Pacific flame retardants market; Brominated Flame retardants constitute a significant share of the overall Flame Retardant market in Korea”.
 
Ms. Gayoung LEE, Managing Director, Knoell Korea and Mr. June Yong LEE, Member of the New York and New Jersey Bars, Kim & Chang presented various Issues and Challenges the Korean Chemicals Policy & regulations.
 
Professor Yong-Chil Seo Professor, Dept. of Environmental Engineering, Yonsei University and Professor Yong-Chul Jang, Chungnam National University, Korea had a dedicated session on E-waste management with the circular economy concept by Eco-Assurance system and Occurrence and Substance flow of BFRs in e-waste and ELVs in South Korea. During this session Professor Yong-Chil Seo Professor, Dept. of Environmental Engineering, Yonsei University mentioned that “the total amount of E-waste generated in South Korea is difficult to estimate however the total amount was expected to be around 800,000 in 2016”.
 
Moreover, participants exchanged views on Circular Economy, Bromine and Flame Retardancy and to strengthened the cooperation with South Korean partners.
