Brussels, 19 November – ASD, the association representing the European aerospace industry, is organising a series of events at the European Parliament in Brussels, from Tuesday 30 November until Thursday 2 December. ‘AeroWeek’ will be an opportunity for Europe’s aerospace industry to raise awareness of its many initiatives aimed at making air transport more sustainable, safer and more competitive. It will also highlight the challenges faced by the sector, as well as its expectations vis-à-vis EU policy-makers.

On this occasion industry representatives will hand out to EU policymakers a Manifesto containing a series of strategic recommendations on the future of European aerospace.

AeroWeek will consist of 3 days of conferences, round-tables and exhibitions organised under the sponsorship of Dominique Baudis MEP, Vice-Chair of the Sky and Space Intergroup of the European Parliament, and with the support of the Belgian presidency of the EU Council. During the event experts, scientists and prominent industry representatives will debate with EU policy-makers, and try to answer questions such as:

·         Can the European Aerospace sector take up the challenge of climate change and make air-transport more eco-efficient?

·         Can it cope with the emergence of rising competition from new aerospace powers such as China and Brazil?

·         Can aerospace take the lead in the process aimed at making Europe more innovative and research-oriented?

·         How to enhance the contribution of the sector to Europe’s economic development, and how can this contribution benefit more to European citizens?

Other key topics will include the funding of the deployment  phase of SESAR, the future European air traffic management system, and the preparation of the EU White Paper on transport.

Confirmed participants in the event include Siim Kallas, European Commissioner for transport; Jean-Claude Marcourt, Minister for Economy representing the Belgian EU Presidency; Tom Enders, CEO of Airbus; Domingo Ureña-Raso, CEO of EADS-CASA and President of ASD; as well as several Members of the European Parliament including Malcolm Harbour, (Chair of the Internal Market committee), Brian Simpson MEP (Chair of the Transport Committee), Vittorio Prodi (Chair of the Sky and Space Intergroup of the Parliament) and Dominique Baudis (Sponsor of the AeroWeek).
