In a message of solidarity to all those taking to the streets across Europe today, GUE/NGL President Gabi Zimmer saluted those sending a strong message against austerity measures which are plunging Europe deeper into recession.

"Today's mobilisations show the need and popular appetite for a radical change of course. We've had enough of these dead-end policies. The only 'stability' austerity is providing is for the banks - the main drivers behind the financial crisis - while those worst hit by these policies are being forced into poverty. People are losing their jobs, wages, entitlements, and access to essential services. It is time for economic, democratic, and social solidarity in the EU, not the further aggravation of inequality and social injustice."

GUE/NGL parties will be represented at demonstrations across the continent with Gabi Zimmer and GUE/NGL MEPs joining the Brussels rallies at Place Schuman, Place Luxembourg and Place Fernando Pessoa.
